2001 Accounting with Data Processing Diploma 2007 Associates Degree Criminal Justice

Experience

I've been a published author since 2012, and have a few different pen names in an assortment of genres. I'm also the owner of a successful online promotional media company. I earned a diploma for accounting with data processing and an associates degree in criminal justice. I have two teenaged boys who I've homeschooled for eight years at the time of this writing. Before moving back to Missouri, I was a Sunday School teacher in Illinois for kids between the age of four years old through fourth grade, so teaching is nothing new to me. I have experience working with both children and adults with learning and speech difficulties, ADHD/ADD, and other mental and physical challenges. I know that every person has their own way of learning, so I attempt to identify and use what works best for each student in regards to speed, approach, and technique. Oftentimes, educational textbooks are more complicated and complex than they need to be, so I simplify it for the student and work with them until they have it down. Although I can be strict if need be, I prefer a laid-back atmosphere with lots of fun and humor. Going outside to learn isn't unusual, and if the parents give permission and fill out a form, we occasionally go on educational, yet fun, field trips. When a student no longer feels they need tutoring or moves into a higher level on a particular subject, we have a "Graduation" cookout (weather permitting) or a party for the student, which parents can also choose to attend, and the "graduate" will be presented with a "diploma". To sum it up, I personally believe that accomplishments should be a BIG deal and a reason to celebrate one's success, and that everyone should get to experience that feeling of "I finally got this!" English, Language Arts, Reading, etc. has always been a passion of mine and I'll admit that I was the dreaded teacher's pet when it came to those subjects. I just couldn't help it! Even though I didn't know it at the time, though I probably should have, I was the perfect person to one day become a writer. Sentence structure is a puzzle to me, and not in a bad way. I love the challenge of making a sentence flow, making it better than it was, perfecting it. I get excited teaching predicates and subjects, nouns and verbs, punctuation and capitalization. Yes, I know. I'm very weird. Even though I have a bizarre and probably abnormal love of English, I can also tutor a student in these subjects: *Social Studies *Science *History *Public Speaking – Get over the fear of speaking in public and more. *Speech (I am not licensed but I can assist a student when outside resources are unavailable, unwanted, or just to keep the student from losing progress over a long break from therapy. My oldest son was born tongue-tied, so I am confident I can be of help in this area.) *Basic Life Skills – This is to prepare a student for life on their own and will include: Cooking, Cleaning, Bill Paying, Using a Checkbook and Debit/Credit Cards, Smart Shopping, and other Household Management areas. *Adult Life Skills – Adults can choose any area they want to learn or improve on in the above areas under Basic Life Skills or other areas that are not shown here but are included in the registration form. *English As Second Language – Must already know some English. This is to help students speak more fluent English. *Sing and Dance Instruction *Swimming Lessons (Seasonal. Will be taught in another location. Private pool) *GED/ACT/SAT Prep *Book Writing & Publishing – You will be taught the Dos and Don'ts of writing and instructed on how to get your book edited, published, marketed, etc And many more! If there's something you would like lessons in that is not listed, contact me to see if it's available.

Hobbies

Reading and writing is my passion, but I also love riding horses, fishing, camping and doing as much as I can with my family. I love to watch shows like Swamp People, Alone, The Walking Dead, etc. As far as music goes, I like all kinds of music, from country to rock. I love to cook and invent new dishes, and I really enjoy teaching others to cook. I do NOT like to clean. YUCK!
